Version Entitlement

Version Entitlement is the electronic right that identifies the specific Vietnam Office Version a customer is permitted to use after purchasing and receiving a valid License/Entitlement. Version Entitlement works together with Product Entitlement, Platform Entitlement, and License to determine the complete scope of installation, Activation, usage, Updates, Reinstall, and Restore.

  • Version Entitlement determines “which Version may be used” — Product Entitlement identifies the Vietnam Office product; Version Entitlement identifies the permitted Version; Platform Entitlement identifies the permitted Platform.
  • Rights are tied to the purchased Version — When a customer purchases a specific Vietnam Office Version, the system records the applicable Version Entitlement. The customer may use that Version within the granted Product, Platform, quantity, and License conditions.
  • Future Versions are not automatically included — Purchasing a Vietnam Office Version does not automatically grant rights to all subsequent Versions or product generations. A new Version outside the Version Entitlement requires an applicable Upgrade right or new Entitlement.
  • Version Entitlement does not operate independently — A Version Entitlement is usable only when the applicable Product Entitlement and Platform Entitlement are also present, the License/Entitlement is in a valid state, and all relevant licensing conditions are satisfied.
  • Product + Version + Platform relationship — Usage rights are determined according to the following principle: Product Entitlement = Vietnam Office → Version Entitlement = permitted Version → Platform Entitlement = permitted Platform → valid License/Entitlement → eligible for Activation and use.
  • Version and Release — Version identifies the licensed product-version scope; a Release is a specific release within that Version. A Version may have multiple Releases providing updates, improvements, bug fixes, or Security Updates.
  • Only official Releases may be used — Within the Version Entitlement scope, only Releases approved by Vietnam Office and placed in PUBLISHED status may be officially distributed, installed, updated, or restored.
  • Version Entitlement and Installation — Before installation, the system or distribution process may verify whether the requested Version falls within the customer's entitlement scope. Being able to download an Installer does not itself create rights to that Version.
  • Version Entitlement and Activation — During Activation, the system checks the installed software Version against the granted Version Entitlement. Activation may be rejected if the Version is outside the permitted scope.
  • Version Entitlement and Updates — Customers may receive and install Updates/Releases within the Version Entitlement scope under the applicable product policy. Updates may include feature improvements, bug fixes, performance enhancements, and Security Updates.
  • Update differs from Upgrade — An Update is a Release update within the existing Version Entitlement. An Upgrade moves to a Version or product generation outside the current entitlement scope and may require new rights.
  • Upgrade Rights are not automatically created — Holding a valid License or successfully completing Activation does not automatically create a right to Upgrade to a new Version. Upgrade rights are determined by the applicable commercial policy and Version Entitlement.
  • New Version within the granted entitlement — If a new Version or Release is determined to fall within the existing Version Entitlement, the customer may update through the supported Vietnam Office process without creating a new Product Entitlement.
  • New Version outside the granted entitlement — If a new Version is outside the current Version Entitlement, the customer must obtain an Upgrade entitlement or new Version Entitlement before that Version can be validly activated and used.
  • Version Entitlement on Windows — Vietnam Office Desktop – Windows may be activated only with a Version covered by the applicable Windows entitlement. Version Entitlement does not change the License's Platform Entitlement.
  • Version Entitlement on macOS — Vietnam Office Desktop – macOS may be used only with a Version covered by the granted macOS entitlement. Version rights do not automatically transfer to Windows.
  • Version Entitlement on Android — Android Versions and Releases are distributed through Google Play and must also comply with the applicable Product/Platform Entitlement and Store Entitlement.
  • Version Entitlement on iOS/iPadOS — Versions and Releases on iOS/iPadOS are distributed through the Apple App Store and verified within the applicable Mobile entitlement scope.
  • Version Entitlement does not transfer rights between Platforms — The right to use a Version on Windows does not automatically create the right to use the same Version on macOS, Android, or iOS/iPadOS. Product, Version, and Platform must all match the purchased entitlement.
  • Version Entitlement and Reinstall — Customers may Reinstall a Version within their current entitlement scope using an official Release that remains supported and distributed by Vietnam Office. Reinstall does not create a new Version Entitlement.
  • Version Entitlement and Restore — Restore only recovers rights to a previously granted Version that remains eligible for use. Restore cannot be used to unlock a Version outside the Version Entitlement scope.
  • Version Entitlement and Device Binding — On Desktop, Version Entitlement identifies the permitted Version, while Device Binding identifies the device authorized to use the License. These conditions are verified independently but must both be valid.
  • Version Entitlement and Store Entitlement — On Mobile, Versions/Releases are distributed through the Store, but commercial usage rights must still satisfy the Store Entitlement and Vietnam Office entitlement conditions applicable to that Platform.
  • Manual installation does not create rights to an out-of-scope Version — Possession of an Installer or Package for a Version does not create rights to use that Version. Vietnam Office may reject Activation or Restore if the Version does not match the Version Entitlement.
  • Version metadata may not be altered to bypass entitlement — Users may not modify, emulate, or interfere with Version, Release, License, or verification information in order to use a Version outside the granted entitlement scope.
  • Security Update — Security Updates are released according to the applicable Version/Release and support policy. Users should remain on a Vietnam Office recommended Release to receive security fixes within their current entitlement and support scope.
  • System Requirements may change by Version — A new Version may require a different operating system, CPU, memory, storage, or other technical conditions from an earlier Version. Having Version Entitlement does not guarantee that the device satisfies that Version's System Requirements.
  • Compatibility may change by Version — Support for file formats, formulas, functions, layouts, media, transitions, animations, or other elements may be expanded or adjusted between Versions/Releases. The applicable Version's Release Notes and Compatibility Documentation are the reference sources.
  • Enterprise Version Entitlement — For organizations and enterprises, Version Entitlement applies to the number of Licenses granted under the applicable order or contract. Deployment must comply with the approved Version, Platform, and Quantity.
  • Project Version Entitlement — For projects, the permitted Version is determined within the approved Project + Product + Version + Platform + Quantity scope. A project may not be independently moved to a Version outside the granted entitlement.
  • Version Entitlement status — Version rights may be used only when the applicable Entitlement and License are in an eligible state. Activation, Updates, or Restore may be unavailable if rights are suspended, revoked, or no longer satisfy the applicable conditions.
  • The Vietnam Office backend is the authoritative verification source — The backend determines the current Version Entitlement, eligible Versions/Releases, Update/Upgrade rights, and their relationship with the applicable Product, Platform, License, and Device/Store.
  • Example — Update within the entitlement scope — A customer is using a valid Vietnam Office Version. When Vietnam Office publishes a new Release within the same Version Entitlement scope, the customer may update according to the applicable Release policy.
  • Example — Upgrade to a new Version — A customer is entitled to the current Version, but the next-generation Version falls outside that Version Entitlement. An Upgrade or new Version Entitlement must be granted before the new Version can be activated.
Version Entitlement principle: purchase a Version → use that Version within the granted entitlement scope → receive eligible Releases/Updates within the Version Entitlement → Reinstall and Restore do not create new Version rights → an out-of-scope Version requires an Upgrade or new Entitlement → all rights must simultaneously match Product + Version + Platform + License.
